DMK chief M Karunanidhi who died of old age on Tuesday evening at Kauveri Hospital in Chennai will be buried at Marina Beach and a rough sketch of his memorial is already prepared by the party.

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Wednesday won the right to bury its chief M Karunanidhi. Post an overnight drama, the Madras High Court permitted the DMK to bury the late DMK president and five-time Tamil Nadu chief minister at Marina Beach. The AIADMK government had earlier refused to grant permission citing legal hurdles.

Karunanidhi’s memorial will be built next to the memorials of former CMs C N Annadurai, M G Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa.

The court also ordered the government to ensure arrangements were made for the burial of the DMK chief. The state government is meanwhile reported to have said that it will not contest the Madras High Court ruling.

The DMK had moved the Madras High Court last night after the state government refused to allot space at Marina Beach on Sardar Patel Road for the burial.
