TN min visits London to study about e-buses

"Last month, members from C-40 group visited Adyar depot to study the local operations and possibilities of operating these buses in Chennai. "The visit helped to determine the broad foundation and arrangements needed to be set in place prior to introduction of bus services in Chennai. CHENNAI: A team from Tamil Nadu led by transport minister M R Vijayabaskar visited United Kingdom ( UK ) to study about battery-operated buses.The team held discussions with Transport For London (TFL), the local government responsible for transport system in London, about operating e-buses The meet was arranged by Anelise Rosa and Anna Peiris of the C-40, a global networking group aimed at electrifying buses to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, in London.In March, Chennai became the first Indian city to sign an agreement with C-40 thereby declaring that the city is committed to electrifying all buses. C-40 will help in getting the necessary resources, technology in creating necessary infra.At the TFL office in London, Tom Cunnington, head of bus business development, briefed the Tamil Nadu team on current status of their clean bus initiative and varied administrative nuances of the roll-out, said an official press release.Thereafter, the team had visited the local electric bus depot at Waterloo to get an insight into the electric bus operations, the release added.
