City may get light rain for two more days

While the city enjoyed overcast sky and light drizzle through the day, the weather stations did not record much rainfall. Light rain may keep Chennai cool for one or two more days due to a prevailing weather system. On Tuesday, the weather stations in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded 33.4 degrees Celsius and 33.3 degrees Celsius respectively. However, chances of widespread rainfall over other parts of the State are diminishing, according to the Meteorological Department. The Meteorological Department forecast a generally cloudy sky till Thursday and the maximum temperature will be around 36 degree Celsius.

Monday’s low pressure area lies over east central Bay of Bengal and adjoining Myanmar coast and this is expected to intensify into a depression and move towards north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha by early Thursday. This may have some impact over northern parts of the State, including Chennai, said officials of the Meteorological department. On Tuesday, the weather stations in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded 33.4 degrees Celsius and 33.3 degrees Celsius respectively. Day temperature The day temperature in many other places such as Dharmapuri, Kanniyakumari, Cuddalore, Coimbatore, Tiruttani and Vellore was also below the average temperature for the day. Meteorological Department officials said only one or two places may receive rainfall in other parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and this would largely be due to convective activity. The State has so far received 231 mm of rainfall against its normal of 267 mm, which is 13% deficit for the season from June 1. However, it is considered normal rainfall by the Meteorological Department. The Meteorological Department forecast a generally cloudy sky till Thursday and the maximum temperature will be around 36 degree Celsius.
