more-in DMK president M.K. Stalin on Wednesday said Electricity Minister P. Thangamani should own responsibility for the “corrupt practices” in the purchase of power from windmills and step down from his post. In a statement here, he also demanded a Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption inquiry into alleged irregularities in power purchase from windmills, not just in the Thoothukudi division, but all over the State. Mr. Stalin said the irregularities were found when Tangedco’s Tirunelveli division conducted an audit. “In November and December 2016 alone, documents were produced to show as if 1.35 crore units had been purchased and ?9.17 crore paid to a company that had nothing to do with windmill generation,” he said, citing the audit report. “A separate inquiry is necessary to find out the beneficiaries,” he added. Mr. Stalin claimed that no action had been taken against the Tangedco chairman and other senior officials and the Minister was preventing any action against them.
