CHENNAI: Actor and MLA Karunas -- against whom the Nungambakkam police have registered a case for issuing death threats, delivering provocative speech and indulging in criminal conspiracy against Tamil Nadu chief minister, deputy chief minister and a police officer -- on Friday denied reports that he had gone underground. CHENNAI: Actor and MLA Karunas -- against whom the Nungambakkam police have registered a case for issuing death threats, delivering provocative speech and indulging in criminal conspiracy against Tamil Nadu chief minister, deputy chief minister and a police officer -- on Friday denied reports that he had gone underground."I have not gone underground or am not hiding. I am here in Chennai. If such false reports could be circulated against a legislator, it is worrying to think of the problems faced by the common man," he told reporters here.On Sunday last, while addressing a protest meeting organised by his political outfit Mukkulathor Puli Padai here, Karunas allegedly made derogatory remarks against chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, deputy chief minister O Paneerselvam and a police officer."One particular police officer has been foisting false cases against youngsters in my community. The protest meeting was held only to highlight that. "Not even single case, even under the basic Section 75, has been booked so far against me. I have advised the cadre to maintain order. But, the video of my speech has been cut and edited, and only a particular clip is being played out on television channels," Karunas said.Based on a suo motu complaint of a sub-inspector, the Nungambakkam police have registered a case against Karunas under Section 75 of the Madras City Police Act (causing ruckus) and IPC sections 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 153 (A) (sedition), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 505 (with intent to cause, or which is likely to cause, any office), 506 (1) (criminal intimidation) and 41 (6) (1-A) govern police to arrest any person without warrant. The police formed a special team to trace him.
