Encroachments near Velachery railway station removed

Aparcel of vacant land along a service road near the Velachery railway station had been encroached upon. Located in Bhuvaneswari Nagar, the plot served as a zone enabling rainwater to flow fireely nto the Pallikaranai Marshland located on the southern side of Velachery railway station. The office bearers of the Velachery Residents Welfare Associations had made many representations to the officials of Greater Chennai Corporation and the Revenue department seeking removal of the encroachments, which included dwellings made with concrete roofing materials. Taking note of the complaints received from residents welfare associations in Velachery, the officials of the Chennai Corporation and the revenue department of Sholinganallur Taluk office and the Velachery police demolished the compound walls in 10 vacant lands and 25 sheds. The plot also had electricity supply.
