Tamil Nadu villagers lock AP cops inside house

VELLORE: Villagers at Melakuppam in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu attacked a police team from Andhra Pradesh who arrested a 32-year-old habitual offender on Monday night. The villagers let the police take him to Andhra Pradesh. Villagers mistook the policemen in mufti for a gang of miscreants trying to abduct their village godwoman’s husband. The villagers locked the police team inside a house.Police said Ramakrishnan, who was wanted by the Dharamapuram urban police in Andhra Pradesh in connection with several theft cases, migrated to Tamil Nadu a couple years ago. A team of six policemen headed by the sub-inspector Sri Harsha rushed to the village and waited for him near his house.The police nabbed him around 10pm.

Six months ago, he married a fortune teller at Melakuppam who is a self-proclaimed godwoman A few days ago, the Dharmapuram urban police came to know that Ramakrishnan was staying at Melakuppam. A team of six policemen headed by the sub-inspector Sri Harsha rushed to the village and waited for him near his house.The police nabbed him around 10pm. Villagers mistook the policemen in mufti for a gang of miscreants trying to abduct their village godwoman’s husband. They attacked the policemen and locked them inside a house.The Rathinagiri police, who came to know about the incident, rushed to the spot and rescued the AP policemen who had been locked inside the house for more than an hour.The AP police team told the villagers about the criminal past of Ramakrishnan. The villagers let the police take him to Andhra Pradesh.
