Boy dies while swimming in Velachery pool

The boy had won several medals in swimming and was practising for a competition. Police said his mother had died six months ago and his father Sridhar had taken voluntary retirement from a private job to take care of the boy. Police sources said that there is no suspicion about his death, but viscera samples have been sent for forensic analysis. Sources said he was later declared brought dead.The Guindy police registered a case of natural death and moved his body to the Royappetah General hospital for a postmortem. The body was later handed over to his father.

CHENNAI: A 14-year-old boy, an upcoming champion swimmer, died at the Velachery aquatic complex on the premises of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu ( SDAT ) after developing health complications while swimming on Sunday.According to police, S Sai Srivathsan was a class XI student of a private school in Chitlapakkam and a resident of Tambaram. The boy had won several medals in swimming and was practising for a competition. For the past few days, he had been visiting the Velachery complex twice daily to prepare for the contest, police said.Srivathsan, who started wheezing while swimming, stepped out of the pool and began complaining of back pain when he collapsed, police sources said.His trainer, who sensed trouble, rushed to his aid along with a few onlookers.Some of them tried to give him first aid, but Srivathsan could not be revived and was immediately rushed to a private hospital in the area.
