Rice husk ash stolen from gold jewellery-making unit in Madurai

MADURAI: An unidentified man broke into a gold jewellery-making unit here in the early hours of Thursday and decamped with rice husk ash stored in three gunny bags and a bucket.The ash contains gold particles which get deposited as waste during jewelley-making. The police were checking the CCTV footages at other shops in the area.The police said there was no jewellery in the workshop when the theft happened. It is sold once in a few months.In his police complaint, workshop owner S Subramaniyan, 59, said the stolen ash contained gold particles worth around Rs 1 lakh.The theft happened in the workshop located in South Krishnankovil Street. However, his face was not clear in the footage. The accused gained entry into the workshop by breaking open the lock on the grill gate.The South Gate police registered a case.The footage from a CCTV camera in the workshop showed a man entering the workshop.
