Gaja: AIADMK man booked for hindering relief work

NAGAPATTINAM: Kizhvelur police personnel in Nagapattinam district have registered a case against a union secretary of ruling AIADMK for assaulting a woman Village Administrative Officer ( VAO ) during cyclone relief works. Apparently, as Selvi was replying the AIADMK man, sources said that Siva assaulted and verbally abused the VAO. Based on the complaint, police said that a case under six IPC sections including IPC 354 was registered against the AIADMK functionary. On Friday evening, the VAO Selvi was overseeing food preparation works for the people evacuated after Gaja cyclone’s landfall and were accommodated in a government school in the village. The incident was taken to the notice of TNVAOA and a complaint was lodged by the victim at Kizhvelur police station.

Condemning the assault against the 38-year-old official, Tamil Nadu Village Administrative Officers Association (TNVAOA) staged a protest demanding the arrest of AIADMK functionary on Sunday.Police sources identified the victim as S Selvi, VAO of Agarakadambanoor village near Kizhvelur. On Friday evening, the VAO Selvi was overseeing food preparation works for the people evacuated after Gaja cyclone’s landfall and were accommodated in a government school in the village. Meanwhile, one union secretary of AIADMK identified as Siva hailing from Kizhvelur was said to have jumped into a verbal altercation with the female VAO demanding swiftness in food preparation. Apparently, as Selvi was replying the AIADMK man, sources said that Siva assaulted and verbally abused the VAO. As onlookers intervened, the female VAO was rescued. The incident was taken to the notice of TNVAOA and a complaint was lodged by the victim at Kizhvelur police station. Based on the complaint, police said that a case under six IPC sections including IPC 354 was registered against the AIADMK functionary. However, no arrest was made.
