Businessman kidnapped, robbed of Rs 2L; 2 held

“After taking him to a house at Siruseri, the gang attacked and robbed him of Rs 2 lakh. CHENNAI: The Esplanade police on Sunday arrested two law college students in relation to the kidnap of a mobile phone dealer. A few months back, Hussain pledged his house documents to Bilal and took ten sovereign gold jewellery from him. When Hussain reached the spot, Bilal and a few others kidnapped him in a car, police said. Nirmalkumar, 23, and Tamizhselvan, 22, final year law students of Kancheepuram law college, were found to be staying in the house and were secured for investigation.A search is on for Bilal and others who might be involved in the abduction.

CHENNAI: The Esplanade police on Sunday arrested two law college students in relation to the kidnap of a mobile phone dealer. The abductors robbed the 38-year-old man of Rs 2 lakh and abandoned him in Perumbakkam.Police said, cellphone dealers Bilal, 40, of Madurai and Hussain Kathar, 38, of Old Washermenpet had monetary disputes, after which Bilal kidnapped the latter.According to police, Hussain, who sold cellphones online, befriended Bilal. A few months back, Hussain pledged his house documents to Bilal and took ten sovereign gold jewellery from him. Later, Hussain introduced Bilal to Nowshath. Bilal and Nowshath entered into foreign currency exchange business together.Bilal incurred loss from the new venture. Since Nowshath absconded, Bilal picked a fight with Hussain blaming him for the loss, police said.On November 14, Bilal came to Chennai and invited Hussain to Broadway to strike a compromise. When Hussain reached the spot, Bilal and a few others kidnapped him in a car, police said. “After taking him to a house at Siruseri, the gang attacked and robbed him of Rs 2 lakh. They then abandoned him at Perumbakkam and escaped,” a police officer said.Based on a complaint from Hussain, Esplanade police registered a case and searched the house in which he was detained in Siruseri. Nirmalkumar, 23, and Tamizhselvan, 22, final year law students of Kancheepuram law college, were found to be staying in the house and were secured for investigation.A search is on for Bilal and others who might be involved in the abduction.
