Why is CM rushing to Delhi, asks Dhinakaran

Is it really to seek Centre’s assistance for cyclone Gaja devastation or is it for any personal political gain for the CM,” Dhinakaran wondered. Even in Pudukkottai and Thanjavur districts, the CM could distribute relief materials only to a few beneficiaries under police security,” Dhinakaran said.“No one from the government has been able to visit hundreds of affected villages and meet the people to estimate their losses to crops and livestock. When such is the case, where even the VAOs have failed to visit several villages and the CM himself was unable to visit all affected districts to understand the extent of the devastation, on what basis will he request PM for financial aid from the Centre,” Dhinakaran asked.“Given the scenario, where the state government has not even sought an interim financial assistance from the Centre, one wonders why the CM is now rushing to Delhi in a hurry. CHENNAI: AMMK deputy general secretary T T V Dhinakaran on Wednesday questioned the haste with which Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami is rushing to New Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to seek Centre’s financial assistance for relief work in cyclone-affected districts. He said even six days after cyclone Gaja thrashed the Cauvery delta districts, people continued to suffer for want of food, shelter and drinking water.“During my visit to the cyclone-affected areas in Nagapattinam and Tiruvarur districts over the last two days, the major complaint of the people was – even the village administrative officers (VAOs) were yet to visit several villages to take stock of the destruction and estimate the losses,” Dhinakaran said.On his part, the chief minister had undertaken an aerial survey of just a few areas in the affected districts and that too after a delay of five days.“Citing bad weather, the chief minister had returned without even visiting the badly affected Nagapattinam and Tiruvarur districts.
