CHENNAI: The Justice A Arumughaswamy commission had a team of medical experts that assisted the panel in probing the hospitalisation and death of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa , its standing counsel Mohammed Jafarullah Khan said on Thursday in response to a petition filed by Apollo Hospitals to form a medical board.Maimoona Badsha, counsel for Apollo Hospitals, asked the commission why the hospital was not informed about the team earlier. It said the medical board was necessary as the commission’s typist made mistakes while recording medical terms, which can mislead the commission.The proceedings for deposition of health minister C Vijayabaskar and Lok Sabha deputy speaker M Thambidurai scheduled on Thursday and Friday were adjourned as V K Sasikala’s advocate Raja Senthoor Pandian moved a petition citing his unavailability. Badsha said as Apollo had been served notice under Section 8(b) of the Commission of Inquiry Act, it had a right to cross-examine the team, sources said.Sources said Khan filed a detailed counter to the petition moved by Apollo on December 28 praying for the formation of a medical board that could vet 30 volumes of Jayalalithaa’s medical records.Khan said a five-member team of cardio-thoracic experts Dr Nandakumar and Dr Sivaraman, bio-chemist Maragatham, cardiologist Dr Nandakumaran and radiologist Dr Ravi from the Madras Medical College (MMC) had assisted the commission for two weeks since October 9.
