CHENNAI: Police on Thursday said they had solved the mysterious January 7 death of a 68-year-old woman found with burns in her bedroom at her Tambaram Sanatorium house, by arresting her daughter and her boyfriend.K Nandhini and Murugan, 42, charged with the murder of S Bhagavati, were later sent to jail.
The older woman had been burned to death as she was against her daughter’s relationship, a police officer said.On Monday night, he said, Bhagavathi woke up screaming from her bed and ran out with her body on fire.A few of her neighbours doused the fire and along with Nandhini took her to the Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital where she died. The Chromepet police registered a case under CrPC Section 174 (unnatural death).Investigators looking at the way Bhagavathi’s body was burned suspected something was amiss and concluded it could not be a case of suicide. They then found Nandhini was in a relationship with Murugan, a friend of her husband Kannan.
