Bribery case: HR&CE officials detained in Salem

SALEM: Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) officials have detained two Hindu religious and charitable endowment (HR&CE) department officials here for allegedly taking bribe from contractors.HR&CE assistant commissioner G Tamilarasu, 55, came to Rajaganapathi temple in the city on Wednesday. The official said they would arrest the duo if it was proved that the cash in the covers were bribe for them. A case was registered against the duo and further inquiries were on. He went into a room where the ornaments of the deity are kept. Acting on a complaint, DVAC officials followed him and seized two covers – each containing Rs 60,000 and Rs 10,000 – from him.A DVAC official said Tamilarasu’s name and the name of his office superintendent, Vanniyar Thilagam, were written on the covers.The DVAC sleuths picked up Tamilarasu and Vanniyar Thilagam for inquiry.
