CHENNAI: HelpAge India , that has been focussing on promoting active ageing, will conduct the ‘Silver Cyclers Project 2019’ on January 19.“Hari Bhaskaran, 71, has tied up with HelpAge India for the event. He is a retired professional who has a passion for cycling,” says Edwin Babu, joint director – programmes, HelpAge India. “His aim is to cycle from Chennai to New Delhi to draw attention to the critical needs that is part of old age care.”On January 19, Bhaskaran’s cycle journey will be flagged off from Elliot’s Beach in Besant Nagar at 8am. He will cycle from the starting point near Dindugul Thalappakatti Restaurant and will make his way to the ending point at Annai Velankanni Church.“We will be providing 20 cycles so that any senior citizen who wants to join him can do so,” says Babu, adding that Bhaskaran’s real journey will start on January 21.“Some of his friends will be joining him at various legs of his journey. And from Bengaluru, a team of about 15 Army personnel will accompany him up to the Maharashtra border,” says Babu.On January 19, Dr Ramesh Sadasivan, geriatrician, will release the Healthy Ageing Booklet. “Many senior citizens do not know what to do with their free time once they retire. We want to introduce them to the concept of active ageing,” says Babu.
