Two Kodanad case suspects granted bail

CHENNAI: The two Kodanad estate robbery suspects, K V Sayan and Walayar Manoj, were granted bail by a city court on Friday in a case filed for making allegations against chief minister K Palaniswami and they then left in an SUV through the rear exit.The chief metropolitan magistrate of Egmore court S Malarvizhi granted bail to the two after they produced four people as surety and paid the bail amount of Rs10,000 each. Earlier in the day, their lawyer had sought time to furnish the surety bond, but the court directed him to complete the process by 5.45pmSayan and Manoj had given interviews to a former journalist Mathew Samuel, who released the video recording in New Delhi last week. This triggered ripples in political circles in the state as it contained several accusations against Palaniswami with regard to the break-in at the late chief minister Jayalalithaa’s Kodanad estate that led to the death of security guard Om Bahadur Thapa, 50, which was reported on April 24, 2017.Four men from Chennai, Mohankumar, Raja, Soundararajan, and Kadirvel, stood surety for the two on Friday. They submitted identity proofs and photocopies of their bank passbooks before the court. The magistrate asked them to appear before the court on Monday and submit their original bank passbooks. However, the magistrate said Sayan and Manoj need not to be present on Monday.Sayan and Manoj were arrested by the Nilgris police personnel soon after the break-in at the Kodanad estate. They gave the interviews to Mathew Samuel when they were out on bail in that case.After the video recording was aired, the Chennai police registered an FIR that named seven people including Mathew Samuel as accused under four IPC sections based on a complaint from Raja Sathya, son of Rajan Chellappa, sitting AIADMK MLA from Madurai . The cyber crime police registered a case under the IPC Sections 153 (A) (creating enmity between two groups), 505 (1) (a) (b) and 505 (2).
