CHENNAI: With the deadline to register women hostels in the city would end on Friday, a total of 823 hostels have registered with the Chennai collectorate . While nearly 600 applications were received for registration till January 21, a total of 133 were added, a week later for registration.The Chennai district collectorate released the list of 733 women and children hostels, who applied for registration. About 90 hostels have sought registration in the last 18 days, between January 28 and February 14.The state government had mandated all hostels for women and children to register under the Tamil Nadu Hostels & Homes for Women & Children (Regulation) Rules 2015. The Chennai district collectorate gave two extensions to register since December last year.The registration drive intensified in the wake of a 48-year-old man, who ran the hostel, was arrested after nine hidden cameras were found in bathrooms and other places in a working women’s hostel at Adambakkam here in December last year.
