Woman robs own house, detained

CHENNAI: A woman and her lover were detained at Kotturpuram on Thursday for allegedly stealing 25 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 5 lakh from her own house. On Thursday, when Baskar was away, she came with Arjun and used a duplicate key to enter the house. She took the gold jewellery and cash.Later, Baskar lodged a complaint with the police.Police have detained Devi and Arjun. She used duplicate keys to rob the house, police said.Baskar, 40, is a resident of Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board quarters in Kotturpuram. Devi then started living with Arjun in a rented house.

She used duplicate keys to rob the house, police said.Baskar, 40, is a resident of Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board quarters in Kotturpuram. He is married to Devi, 38. Baskar, who’s a fish vendor, would leave home early in the morning every day and return late in the night. In the meantime, his wife allegedly started having an affair with her husband’s friend Arjun, 42, also a fish vendor.After the neighbours informed Baskar about the affair, he confronted her which led to her confessing about the affair. He warned her to put an end to their relationship, but she ignored him. In a fit of rage, Baskar sent her out of the house. Devi then started living with Arjun in a rented house. On Thursday, when Baskar was away, she came with Arjun and used a duplicate key to enter the house. She took the gold jewellery and cash.Later, Baskar lodged a complaint with the police.Police have detained Devi and Arjun. Devi has confessed to committing the crime with her partner. Police said that five months ago, she had looted Rs 96,000 in a similar manner and gave it to her lover.
