The midnight alliance pact between the AIADMK and the BJP has triggered tremors among the existing allies of the AIADMK. KIP leader U Thaniyarasu said the ruling party should reconsider its decision about joining hands with the BJP. "If they forge a tie-up, the AIADMK will even lose deposit in certain areas. "The AIADMK could have at least got a guarantee on many of the issues raised by it in the past. "The alliance talks are due to intimidating tactics of the BJP," he charged.

The midnight alliance pact between the AIADMK and the BJP has triggered tremors among the existing allies of the AIADMK. The party, headed by chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and his deputy O Panneerselvam, is facing revolt from Manithaneya Jananayaka Katchi, Kongu Ilaignar Peravai and Mukkulathor Pulipadai, whose MLAs had got elected on the AIADMK symbol in 2016. MJK leader and Nagapattinam MLA Thammemun Ansari has threatened to walk out of the front, as and when the tie-up with the BJP is formalised.Citing anti-Tamil policies of the Centre and the indifference of the BJP to the state's welfare, the allies dubbed the BJP-AIADMK pact one that went against the interest of the people of Tamil Nadu. Ansari said the AIADMK leadership had been repeatedly told to stay off the saffron party as it would ruin the minority vote bank, which had stood by MGR and Jayalalithaa. "If they forge a tie-up, the AIADMK will even lose deposit in certain areas. It is akin to inviting defeat. MJK will never be part of an anti-Tamil alliance, as we don't want to compromise on our ideals, social justice and harmony and the livelihood of Tamils at any cost," Ansari told TOI.Ansari said that many ministers and MPs had spoken to him in private, expressing displeasure over the developments. "The alliance talks are due to intimidating tactics of the BJP," he charged. KIP leader U Thaniyarasu said the ruling party should reconsider its decision about joining hands with the BJP. Modi government did not yield to the requests of the state government with respect to Neet, Mekedatu, methane project, and ignored Jayalalithaa's assembly resolution that requested the Centre to move a resolution in UNHRC for international probe against those who committed war crimes in Lanka. Despite the state cabinet passing a resolution to release the convicts in Rajiv assassination case, the Centre stood in the way, he said."The AIADMK could have at least got a guarantee on many of the issues raised by it in the past. When there are no remedies in sight for the injustice meted out to Tamils, people backing AIADMK is questionable. We have seen parties walking away before signing papers, let us wait and see," Thaniyarasu said.Actor S Karunaas, another ally, who recently sought to renew his ties with the AIADMK after rebelling against the leadership, said people's sentiments should be respected by the AIADMK high command. "Madam Jayalalithaa asked the voters whether Modi or Lady should win; and people gave her 37 seats. Now the government maintains that it follows her footsteps and goes against her wishes," he said.
