CHENNAI: Tamil superstar Rajinikanth on Sunday said he will neither contest nor support any political party in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections. He, however, asked his supporters to vote for the party "that will establish a strong and stable government at the Centre"- something that the BJP immediately interpreted as its endorsement."We will not contest in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. Our aim is the TN assembly election," Rajinikanth said in a one-page statement released to the media even as a meeting convened by him of district secretaries of the Rajini Makkal Mandram was in progress at his residence in the morning. The 68-year-old actor - who dissuaded his fans from using his photograph or flag of the Rajini Makkal Mandram or Rajini Rasigar Mandram (fan club) in favour of any political party or for election campaigns - urged them "to think, analyse and vote for a party that will establish a strong and stable government at the Centre and will find a permanent solution to the water crisis which was critical to TN."He directed his functionaries to stay away from election campaigns and focus on strengthening their support base, keeping the assembly election in mind. He also warned that he would not hesitate to expel anyone who tried to make money or misuse their position in the mandram.State BJP president Tamilisai Soundararajan said Rajinikanth's decision would have no negative impact on the BJP, as the actor has asked his fans to vote for a party that ensured a stable government.
