Ramachandran was batting without pads or gloves.Police questioned all the youngsters who played with Ramachandran to confirm it was an accident. “ Ramachandran was a good batsman, however as the ball was short-pitched, it unexpectedly hit his body,” an investigating officer said quoting witnesses.Ramachandran’s father, Mohan, is a coolie while his mother is a home maker. The Guduvancherry police have registered a case under the CrPC Section 174 (unnatural death). Even as fellow players tried to attend him, he collapsed on the ground and died due to cardiac arrest.”Ramachandran’s younger brother, a school student, was also part of the cricket team and witnessed the tragic accident, police said.

CHENNAI: A college student died of cardiac arrest after a ball slammed into his chest during a game of cricket with friends inside Aadhanur lake near Guduvancherry on Sunday.Witnesses at the spot told police that M Ramachandran alias Srinivasan, 21, a third year student at an arts and science college in Meenambakkam , was trying to fend off a bouncer, but the ball thudded into his chest.Ramachandran was rushed to a nearby hospital in Potheri, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
