MADURAI: State Human Rights Commission has directed the Tamil Nadu government to compensate a sum of Rs 1 lakh to a retired police sub-inspector who was a victim of police excess.The commission also recommended disciplinary action against the then deputy superintendent of police Moovendhan and Mayiladuthurai police inspector Radhakrishnan who indulged in the excess.R Madan Mohan, a retired police sub-inspector and a social worker in Nagapattinam district, said he was picked up by a police team on August 20, 2011 and was later assaulted by the DSP and the inspector.He got bail three months later. In the counter, they mentioned that if it was true that Madan Mohan had been assaulted by them as alleged, he would have mentioned it before the magistrate since he was well aware of the procedure as he had served in the department.After perusing the submissions made, SHRC member A Chittaranjan Mohandoss noted that the magistrate had observed in his remand report that the victim had mentioned the assault and that no external injury had been found and recommended a medical examination.The commission noted that the accused officials had not submitted details on the medical report and had neither tested nor denied the report.
