LS polls: Rs 3.39 cr unaccounted money seized

CHENNAI: The state election department has seized Rs 3.39 crore in cash in four days after the model code conduct came into force in Tamil Nadu on Sunday last. "The cash was seized by static as well as flying squads. Any person who is carrying Rs 50,000 in the form cash will be questioned. The committee shall look into all cases of cash seizures as per the standard operating procedure and take immediate steps to order release of the cash after passing an order. If the person has proper papers, he or she will be allowed to take the cash," state chief electoral officer Satyabrata Sahoo told reporters here.Sahoo said a three-member committee would be formed in each district to avoid inconvenience to the public, genuine businessmen and others.
