TIRUPUR: Tamil Nadu Toddy Movement (TNTM) candidate L Kathiresan was the first candidate to file nominations in Tirupur Lok Sabha constituency on the first day of nominations on Tuesday. Returning officer K S Palanisamy received the nominations at the collectorate.TNTM is an organisation which is ardently advocating removal of ban on extracting toddy as it was affecting farmers. It is fielding only on candidate in the Lok Sabha elections Kathiresan, 46, who is running a knitwear unit, would contest the elections on coconut symbol. The independent candidate unsuccessfully contested in the mayoral elections in the Tirupur Corporation in 2011."Our organisation was demanding that the Centre and the state government take steps to utilise ethanol as an alternative or blend ethanol with petrol and diesel. But no government is ready to take the measure, which has been successfully implemented in countries like Brazil. In case of waiving farm loans, we feel that it is a matter of dignity of the farmers. So, the policies should be altered to empower farmers," said Kathiresan.Another independent candidate, A K Sheik Dawood of Anthiyur in Erode district, also file nominations on the first day.
