Most of them think visiting a dietitian or visiting a proper fitness center is money and time consuming,” says dietitian Advitha Ashok of Diet and Beyond. Some of the biggest weightloss misconceptions that she is confronted with are “lemon and honey in warm water causes miraculous weight loss” and “apple cider vinegar helps unclog blocked heart valves and burns the fat away”. “Both these foods help power up the metabolism , but need to be paired with physical activity and a proper diet. A healthy body isn’t a miracle. It is the fruit of a consistent healthy lifestyle,” she says.City-based fitness coach Saravanan Hariram says Chennai’s hot and humid weather makes people exhausted very fast, especially in summer, which is one of the reasons activity levels tend to come down. “The lack of green space, which restricts people from indulging in outdoor fitness activities, is another reason I am given,” says Hariram, who consults with HealthifyMe. He adds the other misconceptions are that fitness is only walking and jogging, strength training is only for youngsters or those who want muscles, and the elderly should stick to yoga or walking. “Only recently have people started giving diet its due.
