Woman detained for attacking policewoman in Chennai

Police said Usha tried throwing her weight around, claiming she was the junior of a senior advocate in the Madras High Court.However the policemen registered a case against her. Police said Usha grabbed the policewoman by her collar and looked for her name on her uniform. CHENNAI: A woman lawyer was booked for attacking a woman traffic police constable after she was stopped for not wearing a helmet while riding a two-wheeler at Mylapore on Saturday.The lawyer, Usha, 25 was stopped by an SI with the Mylapore traffic wing, Kumaran, and asked to pay ?100 as fine for not wearing a helmet. Usha then tore up the receipt and began abusing the cop and refused to pay the fine.The SI alerted the police control room and a police woman constable was sent to the spot. Kanchana sustained minor injuries in the attack and underwent treatment at government Royapettah hospital.Police have detained Usha for an inquiry based on a complaint filed by the SI.

She threatened him,saying she was a lawyer and that she should be allowed to leave. But the SI wrote out a receipt for the fine of ?100 after noting down her scooter’s registration number. Usha then tore up the receipt and began abusing the cop and refused to pay the fine.The SI alerted the police control room and a police woman constable was sent to the spot. Constable Kanchana asked Usha to accompany her to the police station after she refused to pay the fine.After they reached the police station, an argument broke out. Police said Usha grabbed the policewoman by her collar and looked for her name on her uniform. They ended up in a scuffle.The other policemen tried to pacify the two women. Police said Usha tried throwing her weight around, claiming she was the junior of a senior advocate in the Madras High Court.However the policemen registered a case against her. Kanchana sustained minor injuries in the attack and underwent treatment at government Royapettah hospital.Police have detained Usha for an inquiry based on a complaint filed by the SI.
