"Even if we do not get a common symbol, our candidates will go ahead and file nominations as independents. "Our request to SC for allotment of a common symbol is just. We are confident that we will get the common symbol, when the issue comes before SC tomorrow, which is also the last day to file nominations," Dhinakaran said. Justice A N Kanwilkar on February 7 has described the AMMK as a faction of the AIADMK and had asked the EC to consider allotting 'Pressure Cooker' as a common symbol. "The whole nation now knows how impartial the EC is and it is supposed to be an independent constitutional body," Dhinakaran told reporters, after the EC told the Supreme Court that the AMMK was not a registered party for allotting a common symbol to its candidates.

PM Narendra Modi ‘chowkidar’ of EPS, OPS and corruption: MK Stalin CHENNAI: The Election Commission of India (ECI ) came under attack from both the DMK and the AMMK over the award of symbols to political parties.DMK president M K Stalin, in a statement, alleged the EC was behaving as if it were part of the BJP-AIADMK allaince in Tamil Nadu by being selective in conducting assembly byelections and alloting symbols."The whole nation now knows how impartial the EC is and it is supposed to be an independent constitutional body," Dhinakaran told reporters, after the EC told the Supreme Court that the AMMK was not a registered party for allotting a common symbol to its candidates."Our request to SC for allotment of a common symbol is just. Justice A N Kanwilkar on February 7 has described the AMMK as a faction of the AIADMK and had asked the EC to consider allotting 'Pressure Cooker' as a common symbol. We are confident that we will get the common symbol, when the issue comes before SC tomorrow, which is also the last day to file nominations," Dhinakaran said. "Even if we do not get a common symbol, our candidates will go ahead and file nominations as independents. The voters are our Gods and they know which symbol to vote for in each constituency," Dhinakaran said.Stalin said, “For political parties in the opposition alliance, it is refusing to allot old symbols under which they had contested in the past, while for parties in the BJP-AIADMK alliance, it is allotting the symbol even before they seek, though such parties have lost their recognition.”Later on Monday evening, while addressing an election campaign meetingat Kakkalur near Thiruvallur, Stalin came down heavily on chief minister Edapaddi K Palaniswami for the contradiction in his statements and his party’s manifesto. The AIADMK, in its manifesto, requested the Centre to implement a special scheme to address the slowdown in economy, especially in agriculture, industry and service sectors. It also urged the Centre to take steps to check the erratic inflation numbers, which has resulted in fluctuating prices of essential commodities, thereby affecting the people, Stalin read out from AIADMK’s manifesto. However, on March 6, while participating in the NDA launch campaign near Chennai and in the presence of prime minister Narendra Modi, Palaniswami praised the latter for keeping a check on inflation, especially that of essential commodities. On the Kodanadu issue, Stalin said EPS has been trying to divert attention.“It was EPS, who engaged men from Kerala to get hold of the documents, based on evidence that these were secretly stacked in the estate by their leader (Jayalalithaa), to keep a hold on people like him,” Stalin alleged.Terming Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “chowkidar” of EPS, OPS and corruption, he criticized him for not visiting cyclone Gaja affected districts.
