  • | Tuesday | 11th August, 2020

Chennai airport as of now handles three arrivals from abroad on most of the days under the Vande Bharat flights.

The Chennai airport may also witness few international flights soon, after lifting of shutdown restriction sometime in next month.

There is no official announcement as of yet but there are media reports which suggest that the officials of civil aviation and the Airport Authority of India (AAI) are brainstorming over the issue. The planning to allow international flights based on the ‘air bubble’ concept method mooted by the Union government is going on right now.

The airlines are also putting pressure on the ministry to start flights abroad. SpiceJet has got slots from London. Most of the flights are likely to be to the Middle East or Southeast Asia to begin with. There may be a flight to London but is yet to be confirmed.
