Workmen special Suburban trains for essential services staff will run in Chennai from Oct 5

Railway staff will carry out the thermal screening of passengers prior to entering the stations. Only those passengers whose temperatures are within the limits will be allowed to commute in the trains.

The Southern Railway will run Workmen special Suburban trains for essential services staff authorised by the Tamil Nadu government will come into operation from October 5 in Chennai.

According to a circular issued by the Southern Railway, a nodal officer nominated by the government will authorise travel permission, containing details such as name of the staff, designation, department or office among others.

A photo ID card issued by the respective organisation has to be presented while obtaining the travel permission. The staff should carry the travel permission and photo ID card with them while entering the stations and while travelling.

Tickets will be issued only to those essential services staff who have been authorised by the nodal officer and can be purchased at the booking counters in all stations in Chennai. Ticket checking for the staff will be carried out twice at the suburban stations - once at the entrance to the stations and once at the entrance to the platforms.
