Greater Chennai Corporation launches WhatsApp number

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) officially launched a dedicated WhatsApp communication system +91-9499933644 to help people avail services, raise queries, grievances and track them in real-time. It is the first local body in the country to do so.

Anyone can send a ‘Hi’ and avail an array of services just by typing from the options.
This will facilitate a communication system between the administration and the public, said G Prakash commissioner, GCC.

He added, “We want to always be on the forefront of all technological advancements. Given the ubiquitous nature of the WhatsApp platform, exchanging information with citizens has become extremely convenient and quick. We thank WhatsApp for their assistance in activating this innovative citizen-centric service.”

Meghanath Reddy, deputy commissioner, revenue said, "The reach of WhatsApp is immense and we wanted to leverage that. We are now making all the services that are currently accessible on apps and websites available through WhatsApp. People can avail of citizen-centric services such as the creation of birth and death certificates, timely reminders on tax payment, and electoral services. Based on the need at that time, all services will be available at the click of a button,” he said.

The GCC also launched its new website that is simpler, clutter free, accessible, and has new features, including newsletters.

The WhatsApp Communication system is currently available in English and Tamil.

This automatic grievance registration system will also share important announcements, updates, periodic events, helplines, etc. At an appropriate time, the service will also include critical information on vaccine rollout modalities in Chennai for beneficiaries.
