Chennai: Jeppiaar Institue of Technology (JIT) Sriperumpudur is all set to launch its own satellite – JITsat along with PSLV-C51 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh at around 10.30 am tomorrow. PSLV-C51 rocket which is the 53rd mission of PSLV (Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle) will launch Amazonia-1 of Brazil as primary satellite and 18 co-passenger satellites from Sriharikota about 100 kms from Chennai. JIT managing director N Marie Wilson and principal L M Merlin Livngston said “The students and faculty have worked towards their dream of creating own satellite since 2018. Recently they set-up a ground station and nano satellite research centre in the college premises and named it after Dr Kalpana Chawla the first Indian origin woman who went to space.” Marie Wilson who received an special invite from ISRO for the launch of JITsat said the India National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June 2020 ignited them to start the project. ISRO has tremendously helped in testing and integration of the satellite and the whole success of the JITsat Mission according to a press release. Two faculties M Benisha Xavier and M Suganya along with students T R Yuvanandhini AV Praveen kumar R Pavidhra J Krishnakanth M tharunkumar J Delhiganesh R Vishnu Prasad K Shanjay KG Haarish kannan and S Tamilselvan worked on the project. The entire team dedicated this illustrious project for the upcoming Womens Day.
