Tamil Nadu: Elections 'Off', Covid Restrictions 'On'

The Tamil Nadu assembly elections have concluded and magically Covid-19 scare has returned in the state. In view of a recent surge in the Covid-19 cases and blatant violations of Covid-19 norms and restrictions, the Tamil Nadu government has issued a fresh set of guidelines on Thursday.

TN government has tightened the current restrictions for social gatherings, the government has said 50 per cent seat capacity will be allowed for theatres in multiplexes, temples can be opened till 8 pm for devotees to worship, people can dine with safety precautions till 11 pm in hotels, those in film and small screen shootings should take Covid tests and get vaccinated, only 50 per cent customers should be allowed in tea shops, resorts and amusement parks can allow 50 per cent people. Standees are not allowed in buses, the government said.

The government said that everyone above the age of 45 years should get vaccinated for Covid-19 in a government or recognized private hospital within two weeks.

According to the new guidelines, no more than 200 people will come to any event. The maximum number of people allowed in a wedding-related event has been capped at 100, while a cap of 50 people has been set for death-related functions.

About 4000 new cases of coronavirus were reported in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. Cases are increasing rapidly in Chennai and surrounding areas.
