Chennai: Tamilnadu has reported a surge in Covid-19 outbreak in the State with a total of 10723 new cases. The State has also reported 42 new deaths caused by the coronavirus. The total tally of deaths has now reached 13113 in the State. The record surge in daily infections took the State's tally to 991451. In hotspot Chennai (3304 new cases) hospital beds were filling up fast as the number of active cases breached the 25000 mark.

Chennai: Tamilnadu has reported a surge in Covid-19 outbreak in the State with a total of 10723 new cases. The State has also reported 42 new deaths caused by the coronavirus. The total tally of deaths has now reached 13113 in the State. The record surge in daily infections took the States tally to 991451. Chennai recorded another new high with 3304 cases. The city accounted for 16 of the 42 fatalities. For the second day in a row over a lakh samples were tested taking the total figure to 110130. As many as 108155 people got tested on Sunday. The State health department confirmed 42 people had died on Sunday pushing the net toll to 13113 —the third highest in the country after Maharashtra (60473) and Karnataka (13351). Of the 42 deceased 37 had comorbidities. In hotspot Chennai (3304 new cases) hospital beds were filling up fast as the number of active cases breached the 25000 mark. Almost 35 per cent of the States active cases (70391) are in Chennai.
