M. Manikandan, former AIADMK minister arrested for rape, forced abortion of Tamil actress

The minister is accused of allegedly raping, forced abortion and criminal intimidation of a Malaysian woman who is an actress in the Tamil film Industry.

Former AIADMK minister M Manikandan has been arrested by Chennai City Police from Bangalore. The minister is accused of allegedly raping, forced abortion and criminal intimidation of a Malaysian woman who is an actress in the Tamil film Industry.

Tamil Nadu Police said that he was evading arrest after the Madras High Court refused to grant him anticipatory bail. Dismissing Manikandan`s plea earlier this week, Madras High Court Judge Abdul Quddos said the investigation was at a preliminary stage and the anticipatory bail plea was not eligible.

Earlier, a case was registered against former AIADMK minister M.Manikandan under various sections of the IPC including rape.

This case has been registered against him on the complaint of a Tamil actress at the Adyar All Women police station in Chennai.

The actress had accused the former minister of sexual assault.
The actress alleges that Manikandan sexually assaulted her for the last 5 years under the pretext of marrying her. She also mentioned that Maniknandan forced her to abort their child several times, promising that they would have a baby after getting married.

She further stated that she had conceived thrice during their relationship, but the politician forced her to get an abortion done every time.

While filing the complaint, she said that Manikandan was threatening her to leave the country and if she did not do so, he was threatening to share his objectionable pictures on social media. The actress alleged that Manikanandan also threatened her family.

On the complaint of the actress, a case was registered against Manikandan under sections 417, 376, 313, 323, 506 (I) and 67A of various sections of the IPC including rape.

Manikandan, though reportedly refuted all the accusations levelled against him and claimed that he did not recognise the actor at all.
