TN constitutes economic advisory council, Raghuram Rajan & Esther Duflo part of 5-member team

Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit in his address in the newly constituted assembly on Monday said that the Economic Advisory Council to the Chief Minister has been constituted.

The Chief Minister`s Economic Advisory Council will be constituted to improve and strengthen the economy of Tamil Nadu. The council will include experts like former Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan and Nobel laureate Professor Esther Duflo.

Besides Duflo of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, US, the council will include former chief economic advisor to the central government Arvind Subramaniam, development economist Professor Jean Dreze and former Union finance secretary S Narayan.

Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit in his address in the newly constituted assembly on Monday said that the Economic Advisory Council to the Chief Minister has been constituted.

Purohit said that the council would prepare a roadmap for rapid and inclusive economic growth of the state. This is the first session of the Assembly after the DMK government came to power last month.

Announcing the formation of the council, he said, “The economic growth rate of Tamil Nadu has slowed down in recent years. This government will do everything possible to reverse the situation and accelerate economic growth.

The Governor said that based on the recommendations of the Council, the Government would take steps to provide new energy to the economy and see that the benefits of development reach all sections of the society.
