Slight increase in Coronavirus cases in TN

Chennai, Sep 2 (PTI) In a slight increase, Tamil Nadu on Thursday recorded 1,562 new COVID-19 infections, taking the tally to 26,17,943 cases and active caseload to 16,478.The death toll rose to 34,961 with the addition of 20 more deaths.The State had witnessed a marginal decline in the daily new cases to 1,509 on Wednesday from 1,512 recorded the previous day. A passenger who returned from UAE added to the fresh infections today, according to the State health bulletin here. Five districts contributed to the maximum number of fresh cases today. While Coimbatore saw 215 new infections, Chennai recorded 166 cases followed by Erode district with 132, Thanjavur 110 and Chengalpattu 103.Eight districts saw fresh cases in single digits, while 25 districts reported new cases below 100.The bulletin said about 1,684 COVID-19 positive patients were discharged following treatment today, taking the total number of recoveries to 25,66,504.The State"s capital reported 2 deaths due to the infection on Thursday taking the COVID-19 related fatalities to 8,404. With 1,734 active cases, Chennai’s total cases have mounted to 5,44,489 while the total recoveries, including 185 today, stand at 5,34,351. PTI JSP BN BN
