TN logs 30,055 new COVID cases

Chennai, Jan 25 (PTI) Tamil Nadu on Tuesday continued to record a marginal decline in new Covid-19 cases with 30,055 infections, pushing the caseload to 31,94,260, while 48 more fatalities took the death toll to 37,312, the health department said. With 25,221 people getting discharged in the last 24 hours, recoveries climbed to 29,45,678 leaving 2,11,270 active infections, a medical bulletin said. After reporting a high of 30,744 new cases on Saturday, the COVID graph has been on the downward trend with 30,580 added on Sunday, while on Monday it was 30,215. Meanwhile, eight districts including the State capital accounted for the majority of new infections. Chennai added 6,241 new cases, Coimbatore 3,763, Chengalpet 1,737, Tiruppur 1,490, Erode 1,229, Kanyakumari 1,217, Thanjavur 1,104 and Salem 1,087. Those who tested positive today included 16 returnees from domestic and overseas locations. A total of 1,48,469 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, pushing the cumulative number of specimens examined to 6,09,03,180, the bulletin said. PTI VIJ BN BN
