Redrawing Resistance 2016: Expressions of young women on sexual harassment in public spaces will be held at Lalit Kala Akademi, Greams Road on Friday at 4 pm. Embracing stories of survival, an artist exhibition will showcase the work of victims of sexual harassment and their supporters this weekend. The event titled simply, ‘Redrawing Resistance’ will be held at the Lalit Kala Akademi on Friday. The art works on display will coincide with International Anti-Street Harassment Week between April 10 and 16. Unlimited Girls, directed by Paromita Vohra, an exploration on how women navigate feminism in their everyday lives will be screened on April 16 at 4pm at Lali Kala Akademi.

CHENNAI: There is courage on these canvasses. Embracing stories of survival, an artist exhibition will showcase the work of victims of sexual harassment and their supporters this weekend. The event titled simply, ‘Redrawing Resistance’ will be held at the Lalit Kala Akademi on Friday. The initiative has been jointly organised by the US Consulate General Chennai and the International Foundation for Crime Prevention and Victim Care, Chennai in association with the Department of Psychology, Women’s Christian College. The art works on display will coincide with International Anti-Street Harassment Week between April 10 and 16. According to Prasanna Gettu, CEO of PCVC, “The idea is to put the focus on resilience and strength, rather than violence which is what is often projected with stories like these.” In order to get the students to open up, she elaborates, they underwent a workshop on gender violence and later a session with an international art therapist. The formal inauguration will be followed by a series of Spoken Word performances exploring motifs of resilience, resistance and survival by members of the performance collective Stray Factory. An interactive talk show, ‘Let’s #Oorsuthify’ will take place on April 17.
