Chemmanam Chacko gets Asan Memorial Poetry Prize

Chennai: Veteran Malayalam satirical poet Chemmanam Chacko received the prestigious Asan Memorial Poetry Prize 2015 from film-maker and lyricist Sreekumaran Thambi at a function held at the Asan Memorial Senior Secondary School in the city on Saturday.Known for his satirical attack on political and social hierarchies through poetry, Chacko has published more than 30 books in Malayalam.The 90-year-old is the 30th recipient of the award, instituted in 1985 by Asan Memorial Association in memory of great Malayalam poet Kumaran Asan.The award comprises 50,000 in cash, a sculpture, and a citation. "I am happy to see that the literary spirit of people here has not been washed away in the recent deluge.
