Chennai cop, son drown in pool near Kodaikanal

Unaware of the uneven surface and holes in between rocks, Samuel Raj ventured deep into the pool and got his leg entangled. Arulnathan, his wife, son, daughter and brother-in-law started to Kodaikanal on Monday night. Arulnathan was found clasping his son's leg.The bodies were shifted Periakulam Government Hospital, where postmortems were conducted.The bodies were taken to Chennai to carry out the final rites. Arulnathan did not know swimming, and both drowned.Forest personnel, who were informed about the incident, fished out the bodies. MADURAI: A policeman from Chennai and his eight-year-old son drowned in a pool at Kumbakarai falls near Periakulam in Theni district on Tuesday morning.The deceased have been identified as Arulnathan, 43, a head constable at the Kotwal Chavadi police station in Chennai, and his son Samuel Raj, 8.Police said tragedy happened to the family when they were on a trip to Kodaikanal. Arulnathan, his wife, son, daughter and brother-in-law started to Kodaikanal on Monday night. They reached Batlagundu on Tuesday morning. The family members wanted to visit the scenic Kumbakarai falls and took a detour of 25kms to reach the falls.Since there was no water, forest officials wouldn't allow visitors. However, the family was allowed since the policeman made a request. There are a couple of deep pools up above the main falls which can be reached by trekking a couple of hundred metres on a rocky mountain path.While others family members were sightseeing, the head constable and his son was taking bath in one of the pools.
