Cases booked against 3

The city police have booked cases against three persons, including a woman, the building owner of an eatery which was gutted in a fire after a gas cylinder exploded on Saturday night, for causing death due to negligence. Additional Commissioner of Police H.M. Jayaram told The Hindu, “We have booked a case against them under Section 304-A (Causing death due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code. All the injured are undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals. A fireman was killed and several others were injured in the blast at the eatery on Meenambal Street in Kodungaiyur. The Kodungaiyur Police registered a case against eatery owner Anandan, who is presently undergoing treatment, and building owners Ram Gandhi and his wife Nagarathinam who had entered into an agreement with the tenant.

The case is under investigation. Forensic experts collected samples from the site to find out cause of accident. After receiving the report, we will proceed as per law.” However, an initial report suggested that a short circuit that occurred in the electric oven might have been the reason behind the accident.
