Tamil Nadu and Puducherry had 10,99,521 pending cases as on December 31, 2016. "The number of transactions recorded for eCourts rose from two crore in 2014 to 66 crore in 2017. As on December 31, 2016, the pendency in subordinate courts stood at 2.74 crore.Among the subordinate courts, Uttar Pradesh topped the list with 59,80,071 pending cases, followed by Maharashtra with 32,39,540 cases. The eCourts transactions have emerged as one of the top most accessed services of the government. Similarly, pendency in the Supreme Court also witnessed a decline.

CHENNAI: Asserting that the eCourts Mission Mode project is a hit, the minister of state for law and justice P P Chaudhary has said that the number of court orders accessed through the portal saw a drastic increase from 64 in 2014 to 3.56 crore in 2017.The minister revealed the data while answering a question raised in the Lok Sabha on July 19 about the steps taken by the government to provide speedy justice to citizens."The number of transactions recorded for eCourts rose from two crore in 2014 to 66 crore in 2017. The eCourts transactions have emerged as one of the top most accessed services of the government. Particularly, the number of court orders accessed through the portal has increased from a mere 64 in 2014 to 3.56 crore in 2017," Chaudhary said.Similarly, while answering a question on the details of cases pending at various levels of the judiciary, the minister said the pendency in the 24 high courts across the country has declined from 41.53 lakh cases in 2014 to 40.15 lakh cases in 2016. Similarly, pendency in the Supreme Court also witnessed a decline. In 2014, the apex court had 62,000 pending cases which dipped to 60,000 in 2016, he added.However, the total number of pending cases in the district and subordinate courts across the country, which had already crossed the two crore mark, witnessed a further increase by 10 lakh cases from 2.64 crore cases in 2014. As on December 31, 2016, the pendency in subordinate courts stood at 2.74 crore.Among the subordinate courts, Uttar Pradesh topped the list with 59,80,071 pending cases, followed by Maharashtra with 32,39,540 cases.
