4-year-old from West Tambaram dies

Tejeswaran died at the Institute of Child Health (ICH) here on Thursday evening. The death of a four-year-old child of fever came as a shock to residents of West Tambaram, where he lived, besides raising some panic in the area. Municipal officials said that a door-to-door campaign was being carried out by staff from the Public Health department and municipal health staff for the past 15 days. The child, hailing from Manthopu area in Tambaram municipality, was admitted with high fever to the Government Hospital at Chromepet on Wednesday.

His health deteriorated and doctors referred the boy for treatment to the ICH at Egmore at midnight on Wednesday. Doctors with the Public Health department said that the boy was brought to ICH with extremely low blood pressure and he had high fever for three days. They suggested that people with fever should immediately go for check-ups at government hospitals and school-going children should be monitored for any change in their health conditions. Any incidence of fever should be brought to the notice of the Public Health department officials for quick action, they said. Municipal officials said that a door-to-door campaign was being carried out by staff from the Public Health department and municipal health staff for the past 15 days. Cleaning programme Health officials conducted a mass cleaning programme on Friday. Municipal sanitary workers not only cleaned up residential localities, but also the school where Tejeswaran was studying.
