VK Sasikala: Controversies shrouds her political career

  • Summary: Since the death of AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa, one name that really hogged the limelight in Tamil Nadu politics is Jayalalithaa’s confidant VK Sasikala. As the saying goes popularity either good or bad is always a boon for politician. Riding this gospel, Sasikala became one of the tallest politicians in Tamil Nadu.     On December 19, 2011, Jayalalithaa had expelled Sasikala Natarajan and her relatives.
    On March 31, 2012, Sasikala Natarajan was reinstated as a party member after issuing a written apology.
    On December 29, 2016, AIADMK general council unanimously appointed Sasikala as the party`s general secretary.
    On February 5, 2017, Sasikala was unanimously elected as the AIADMK Legislature Party Leader and she was about to be CM of Tamil Nadu.
    On February 14, 2017, SC found Sasikala guilty of conspiring, laundering and amassing illicit wealth worth about 66.44 crore.
    In February 2017, Sasikala had to go jail in corruption charges.
    In July 2017, DIG Roopa alleged that AIADMK paid Rs 2 crore for providing VIP treatment in jail.
    On September 12, 2017, AIADMK general council sacked Sasikala as party’s general secretary.
