more-in A first-year engineering student committed suicide by hanging in her hostel room of Sathyabama University on Rajiv Gandhi Salai on Wednesday. According to the police, Duvvru Raga Monica, 19, is from Hyderabad. She was pursuing her first-year BE - IT course at the college and was staying at the hostel. On Wednesday, she was sent out of the examination hall after she was allegedly found indulging in malpractice. She went to her hostel room. When the other hostellers returned after finishing their examinations, they found her hanging dead. Following the incident, a section of the hostel inmates demonstrated in front of the gate of the college in the evening. They also set fire to billboards on the campus and shouted slogans against the management. A police official said that the fire had been brought under control. Raja Reddy, the father of the girl, who is a general manager at a private company in Hyderabad, lodged a complaint with the Semmencheri police station. A police officer from Semmancheri said that the girl’s twin brother, who had also been writing the exam in the same hall as her, received a message from her after she had been sent out. According to the college officials, everything was normal on campus till 7.30 p.m. It was only later that students began to get agitated and indulged in arson. A college official further said that the girl was found to have been indulging in malpractice during the examination following which she was asked to sign a form and then sent out of the hall. Procedure followed “This is the regular procedure followed when a student is found indulging in malpractice during the exam,” he said. The student, according to the officials, went to her hostel room and sent her brother a message bidding goodbye. After completing the exam at 11.30 a.m., the brother saw the message and rushed to the hostel. With the help of the watchman, he found her room and entered it to find her hanging.
