Tirupur: A 66-year-old retired nurse fed poison to her 26-year-old son with learning difficulties before committing suicide at their house at Udumalpet here on Tuesday.Their bodies were discovered by her daughter when she returned from work. She mixed poison in milk and fed it to Manoj before drinking the same herself, the police said. The Udumalpet police suspect that she was frustrated as she could not take care of her son.The police have registered a case and investigations are on. As she got in she discovered her family members dead.The police said Mary could have locked the front door from outside before entering into the house through the back door. It was the second such incident in two days in the district.On Monday, another elderly woman strangulated her stepdaughter with learning difficulties and committed suicide in Thottathupalayam in the city.The deceased were identified as Luis Mary and her son Manoj Kumar.After Luis Mary’s husband Rajan died more than 10 years ago, she has been living with her son Manoj Kumar and daughter Meena Rosy at Srinivasa garden at Udumalpet, said the police.Meena works at a knitwear manufacturing unit while Mary, who was a retired government nurse, was looking after Manoj.On Tuesday, when Meena returned from work, she found that the front door of their house was locked from outside.She, however, found that the back door was open.
