The Coimbatore Corporation has asked the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) to estimate the cost of shifting the Ukkadam bus stand and depot. The estimate would include the cost of constructing the compound wall, office and toilet complex for the depot and basic amenities for the bus stand. The conditions the TNSTC board had placed was that the Corporation should provide an alternative land and also bear the cost of establishing the new depot and bus stand. The officials said the Corporation had identified the land next to its sewage treatment plant in Ukkadam for relocating the depot and bus stand and wanted the TNSTC to give the estimate. Earlier, the TNSTC Coimbatore Limited Board had approved of the Corporation's request to shift the depot and bus stand to enable the latter take up the lake rejuvenation and development project, which is a Smart Cities Mission project.

Earlier, the TNSTC Coimbatore Limited Board had approved of the Corporation's request to shift the depot and bus stand to enable the latter take up the lake rejuvenation and development project, which is a Smart Cities Mission project. The conditions the TNSTC board had placed was that the Corporation should provide an alternative land and also bear the cost of establishing the new depot and bus stand. And, the Corporation had agreed to both the conditions. The officials said the Corporation had identified the land next to its sewage treatment plant in Ukkadam for relocating the depot and bus stand and wanted the TNSTC to give the estimate. The estimate would include the cost of constructing the compound wall, office and toilet complex for the depot and basic amenities for the bus stand. Once the TNSTC provided the estimate, the Corporation would get the Smart City Limited Board's approval to take up the project at the earliest because the shifting of the depot and bus stand was a pre-requisite to take up the lake development project in Valangulam, the execution of which would take place soon.
