more-in InkHigh, a website that popularises works of closet writers, poets and bloggers, has created a buzz with an open mic event which is being held this time in Coimbatore. They have had such events in Bengaluru and Chennai and this is their second visit to the city. The event has a theme - Fight Night. Artistes are invited to present their own poetry, music and stand up comedy among other things. Aditya K.N., an excutive Member of InkHIgh says, “Though it is an open mic event, we have curated it based on a theme to bring out the best content from the performers and also to keep the audience engaged. It is also a platform to voice your opinion.” The artistes are free to interpret fight night in their own way. “You can be a beat boxer and use the platform to talk about oppression in music. You could speak on hunger, violence, hatred...anything that topic that needs a healthy discussion. The idea is to enjoy art, have a good time and at the same time engage in a meaningful dialogue on issues,” says Aditya. The inspiration for the theme comes from the film Fight Club. On the surface it is about guys who are boxers, but there is also a deeper and more profound story in it. “It’s not about winning or losing but about the journey that takes you there. We have our goals and the journey is incomplete without pitfalls. We just fight it out and find a way out to reach our destination. That is the idea we want to drive home ,” he says. Their website (www.inkhigh.com) is already buzzing. “We want to build excitement and curiosity about the open mic event and it seems to have worked as authors and poets have responded to us. One author has written about oppression of female gender. Another talks about mental health and sanity. We have a story on the messed up Indian education system... The open mic event is not a platform to be disrespectful or rebellious, but a space where our voices can be heard.” Info you can use June 23, 4.00 pm to 7.00 pm at Mugs and Brews (Opposite Kumaraguru College of Technology), Saravanampatti Registration fee is ?200 for both performers and audience There will be a live performance by a local band.
