Tirupur: As many as 12 people were injured in a multiple vehicle collision on Salem-Kochi National Highway near Avinashi here on Monday morning. Following the incident, traffic was disrupted on the stretch for more than one hour.According to police, the flurry of accidents took place with a minitruck overturning at Thekkalur near Avinashi.Police said the minitruck laden with construction equipment was heading to Coimbatore from the city when it overturned near Avinashi due to overweight. Two cars, two SUVs and a bus that were coming behind the minitruck subsequently collided with one another.The injured were admitted to Avinashi government hospital and private hospitals.In another accident, 28-year-old man was killed after a private bus rammed a motorcycle near Uthukuli in the district on Monday.The deceased was identified as M Sanjeevanathan, of Vinoba Nagar in Koduvai. The accident took place when he was going towards Uthukuli on motorcycle. When he reached Thimmanaickenpalayam overbridge, the bus that was heading to Erode from Tirupur to Erode hit his two-wheeler. In the impact, he was thrown off the motorcycle and came into contact with overhead electrical distribution line. He was electrocuted and died on the spot. The Uthukuli police have registered a case.
